Clomid is a treatment for infertility. It is an anti-estrogen that blocks estrogen-producing receptors located in the ovaries and hypothalamus, activates follicular maturation, stimulates ovulation and helps increase estradiol levels in the blood. The active substance of Clomid is clomiphene.
The drug is most effective with a sufficient level of estrogen and does not show its effect with a low level of gonadotropic hormones.
Clomid was first used as a cure for infertility in the early 1970s, in the United States. Now this drug is widely known outside the US.

Clomid is prescribed for anovulatory infertility, amenorrhea (prolonged absence of menstrual bleeding), galactorrhea caused by a pituitary tumor, dysfunctional metrorrhagia (uterine bleeding), polycystic ovary, androgen deficiency, oligospermia - a condition in which there is insufficient amount of ovum in the seminal fluid to fertilize the egg. There are positive reviews of Clomid used to make a diagnosis for suspected impaired gonadotropic pituitary function.
Although the drug was designed to help women with anovulation (most often associated with PCOS), it is often used to stimulate the growth of additional follicles in women who have a normal ovulatory cycle. Clomiphene citrate acts by blocking estrogen receptors in the ovaries, thereby stimulating the pituitary gland to secrete higher FSH concentrations.
Dosage and administration Clomid
To restore ovulation, Clomid is prescribed to take 50 mg daily before sleep. Treatment begins on the fifth day of the menstrual cycle. If a woman has no menstruation, it is allowed to start taking Clomid at any time. After a month, if ovulation did not occur, the dosage of the drug is increased to 150 mg. The presence of ovulation is determined by basal temperature, level of progesterone and luteinizing hormone.
If ovulation has occurred after treatment and pregnancy has not, Clomid is taken again according to a similar pattern. In the presence of ovulation and the absence of menstrual bleeding, before starting a new course of Clomid, pregnancy is necessarily confirmed or excluded.
During therapy, a woman should undergo regular examinations by a gynecologist in order to control ovarian function, the condition of the vaginal mucosa and cervical canal.
Women taking Clomid for infertility treatment should be warned that the drug increases the likelihood of developing a multiple pregnancy.
For men with oligospermia, the drug is prescribed to take once or twice a day at 50 mg. Treatment lasts no more than 3-4 months, while the cellular, chemical and physical composition of the ejaculate is constantly checked.
Clomid for men
For male athletes, the drug acts as an antiestrogen. With it, a number of processes are carried out in the body of athletes. The drug induces gonadoliberin to produce, causes the pituitary gland to produce more luteinizing hormone. Clomid also raises the level of hormones produced and stimulated by the ovaries, and helps increase testosterone production by the ovaries.
Due to the fact that the product is able to act on the pituitary gland itself, this process contributes to the growth of natural testosterone. Therefore, this drug is widely used by bodybuilders who take anabolic steroids.
